“One of the most important things I learned from Sue is that the only way you will learn is by allowing yourself to make mistakes. I can’t begin to tell you how many times I heard her say, ‘the worst thing that can happen is that you’ll fall.’ She reminded me of this many, many times! Those words hold true with so many things is life...I know Sue is not looking for recognition for her work as a coach. I am sure she receives many intangible rewards through her student’s successes, but I think it is time that Sue Susic Ervin is recognized for her tremendous contributions to the sport of figure skating in Wisconsin.” |

“I retired from skating after having competed in 3 Olympic Festivals, 5 International Competitions and 7 National Competitions. All of these experiences were because Sue Susic Ervin dedicated herself to me and all her students, not only as a coach, but as a teacher and a friend. Since my success, Sue has had three more skaters reach the National level of competition, and she has coached yearly at Regional and Sectional Competitions. Sue and I opened the door in Milwaukee for other skaters to be successful from a relatively small figure skating community” |

“As a young skater growing up in Minnesota, I remember traveling to Milwaukee for the annual WIM competition. I enjoyed the quality of skaters that I competed against from many areas around the Midwest. As in all competitions, I remember some of the skaters that took from the Milwaukee coach, Sue Susic Ervin, as being particularly well trained and placing consistently on the podium. Later in my training, one of Sue’s skaters became a good friend of mine, Kelly Szmurlo Rainey. The WIM competition became an important part of my early childhood skating experience” |
