IN A
WORD... |

Finally, it is an awesome
responsibility to be charged with compiling and capsulizing a lifetime of
work in fifty-some pages. After a quarter century of working with parents,
skating judges, ice rink managers, United States Figure Skating
Association officials and, of course, children and adults of all ages, it
is nice to see Sue recognized. |
|
As former director of the Mayfair
Mall Ice Chalet (1973-1986), Publicity Director Emeritus of the Greater
Milwaukee Figure Skating Club and husband of Sue, it goes without saying
that I am proud of her coaching record and abilities as a coach and
technician. Having traveled widely throughout the United States to skating
events, whether they be competitions, seminars or conventions, I have
stayed in close contact with skating at all levels. I am happy to report
that the state of coaching figure skating in Wisconsin is getting better
all the time. Sue is currently mentoring a whole new group of young former
competitors eager to pass on their love for skating by way of coaching.
The future in Wisconsin for more skaters to reach the, once unheard of,
level of regional, sectional and national competition is
encouraging. |

Regionals (Upper Great Lakes),
Sectionals (Midwesterns) and Nationals are the equivalent of a single
elimination “playoff” in other sports. Yes, there are other important
non-qualifying competitions held within Wisconsin. Competitions held in
Madison, Green Bay, Wausau, Janesville, Kenosha and the Greater Milwaukee
Figure Skating Club’s own Wisconsin-Illinois-Minnesota (W.I.M.)
competition are all very important in the growth of up-and-coming skaters.
However, it is the qualifying competitions that really count, and for that
reason the complete and accurate placement of those competitors has been
kept. It is an honor for a skater to compete in an eight state qualifying
competition, let alone make the final round, place in the top 10, or move
on to the next higher level competition, whether it be Midwesterns (Mids),
or Nationals. |

The vast quantity of material presented
in this web site and the book took forever to assemble, particularly
in view of the fact the Sue has no idea
that she has been nominated, the book has been created or that this
Web site exists! My extreme apologies to
anyone who may have been left out due to time and space constraints. |
|
The one little article that grabbed
my attention more than any other was the editorial letter written by Cathy
Salinger after a performance run in Milwaukee with her professional show.
Cathy is one of eight professional ice show skaters traveling the world,
loving what they are doing, being “Good Will Ambassadors” on ice for
Wisconsin. |

I really doubt that Sue knew way back
in the early 70’s the kind of strong, positive impact she would have on
the lives of thousands of skaters and parents she would coach privately
and in larger group lesson sessions. |

|
Yes, it is nice to see Sue be
recognized and it is additionally nice to have figure skaters from
Wisconsin be so highly recognized and regarded wherever “in the World”
they skate. |
