Ms. Sue Susic Ervin

Dear Sue:

I am very pleased to learn of your nomination to the Wisconsin Sports Hall of Fame. It is a very well deserved honor to be nominated, and you would be among the most deserving of inductees.

It is difficult to believe that twenty years have passed since we first met upon my arrival in Milwaukee. I clearly remember your interest in your skaters, and in aggressively promoting the sport of figure skating. You accomplished a great deal on behalf of the sport, by being very accessible, and also very understanding when it came to dealing with the media.

Many people seeking publicity simply expect publicity. You and Dennis always presented us with a story line, a
reason to be interested in the sport. Most often, your best reasons were the students themselves. Your devotion to
the skaters has always been your most evident priority. It was clear that you were, above all else, a committed
teacher and mentor, not only when it came to figure skating, but of life’s other lessons as well.

Your list of personal accomplishments, and the accomplishments of your students, provides a wonderful snapshot of your professional life. I truly hope that you are properly rewarded with induction into the Wisconsin Sports Hall of Fame. It would be the only appropriate tribute to your marvelous career.

Thanks for teaching a much younger sportscaster, with a limited knowledge of figure skating, about your sport, and about workable media/competitor relationships. It was always a great pleasure to reunite with you and your students.

I would be pleased to learn that you have joined Shirley Martin, Bonnie Blair, Dianne Holum and Jane Pettit in our state’s prestigious Sports Hall of Fame.
